The topic of immigration is a very touchy in America. Some Americans are all for the idea of legalization. Others are adamantly against it. However, most Americans have never even looked into the topic of legalization. They don’t know the pros and the cons of legalizing immigrants from different countries on the planet. Though most are ignorant to the topic, others are very passionate about it. They either fight for it or they fight against it. Immigrants come to the United States from all over the world and contribute to the economy in various ways, which is the main reason that immigration should be legalized. Immigration is something everyone should care about and consider for several reasons. For one, immigration has a huge impact on education, jobs, poverty, healthcare, taxes, wages, and even the environment. Today, the U.S. is experiencing its lowest labor participation rate in the last 35 years. Only 62.6% of the working age population is employed. 55 million native-born Americans between the ages of 18 to 64 are not in the labor force. In 2012, 10.5 million students from immigrant headed households attended public schools. Immigrants and their children account for one-quarter of all U.S. residents living in poverty. Between 2000-2010, new immigrants and their children account for two-thirds of the increase in the uninsured population. Illegal immigrants costs U.S. taxpayers $113 billion annually.
